Special Sick Leave Under The Administrative Order Due To The Dengue Emergency

The Secretary Of Health Signed Administrative Order No. 2024-589 To Declare A Public Health Emergency Due To Dengue.

Administrative Order:

As of March 21, 2024, there has been a 140% increase in reported dengue cases in Puerto Rico compared to the same date last year. In response to this increase, a public health emergency due to dengue was declared in Puerto Rico.

This Emergency Order will remain in effect for a period of 90 days, until June 24, 2024. 

Special Sick Leave:

During the established emergency period, this Administrative Order activates the special sick leave with pay for up to five (5) working days granted by Law No. 37-2020.

This leave applies to non-exempt employees, regardless of their probationary period.

The employee must have exhausted their sick leave and any other applicable paid leave before taking the special sick leave.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

The maximum duration of this leave is five days, regardless of how many times the employee is affected during the emergency period.

The employee is not entitled to accumulate or receive payment for unused special sick leave days.
